Newuniversal is Warren Ellis’s reinvention of the "New Universe," a line of comics first published by Marvel in 1986 that introduced an all-new cast of superhero characters who inhabited a world that was far closer to our own than to that of the Marvel Universe. Ellis cannily keeps overt links to the old New Universe minimal, but he sticks to the core premise quite closely, even going so far as to use the same character concepts (broadly) in his new take. However, he also brings his own sensibilities to the concept, and it's the more idiosyncratic qualities of his writing that produce the most enjoyable parts of the book. Collects #1-6
